SHIVA‘s SHAKTI
On 24th August 2019, a
young artist, Shiva, made her foray into the word of art in a decidedly
different setting. It takes the young to break the bonds and come with relatively
new concept, both in terms of art and conceptualization in exhibiting the art
works. If the impressionists could break the shackles of The Academy and
present their exhibition at photographer Nadar’s former studio, which was
scoffed at, at that time. This did not deter them and managed to start a
new movement in the art world. We need more “Shivas” to spearhead through the world
of curators and art galleries which choose to throttle the very purpose of
creativity.
Her exhibition titled “Aadya” was
inaugurated by Dr S. S. Bhatti, former Principal, College of Architecture. It
was, a gathering for curators and art lovers and a free event showcasing
paintings and mixed media works. Rather than a rented gallery, the exhibition was
held in a house in sector 10.
There was a panel discussion on
Why Art matters? An attempt to question and understand the many ways in which
art manifests itself and the transformational and profound impact it may have,
the panellist were Dr S.S Bhatti and Aman Sohal (Architect and water colourist).
It was moderated by Ritu Bansal.
At the same venue, the next
evening, freelance city artist Sonal gave live demonstration of her art work. The
artists virtuosity at floral work, reflected in the bright hued flowers, and
deft handling of brushwork left the audience spellbound by the speed of
execution and the overall impact of the final art work. Sonal who is a trained
artist explained the nuances of the painting and answered queries of the
audiences.
The exhibition of Shiva’s work
reflects the influence of the post-impressionist period. The female figures are
reminiscent of Gauguin and in some a definite hint of Picasso shows through.
With experience and her love for this new found way of expression in her life,
this consultant turned artist will definitely forge her way ahead.
